We are proud that we at Unity of Medina offer a Unity program special for children.

Unity is unique in its approach to the world, and you and the children will benefit so much from the positive lessons of Unity.

Our Mission
by Myrtle Fillmore

Our mission is not to entertain the children, but to call them out. To be always entertained is to be dwarfed and dependent. To be "called out" is to follow the harmonious law of the soul's unfoldment.

Who meddles with the rosebud? What fingers are deft enough to pry open that marvel of folded beauty? We are wise enough to leave it alone to follow the glad law of its own unfolding. But our children! Have we dealt as wisely with these buds of marvelous possibilities? Have we always remembered that they, too, must quicken and unfold through the innate law of their own genius?

Unity’s Living Curriculum philosophy affirms that the curriculum is not within any guide, but rather lives within the children themselves. Myrtle Fillmore, co-founder of Unity, was the inspiration for this foundational belief as she saw each child live the Truth principles through his or her own soul’s unfoldment.

September 2009 - Youth Ministry - Uniteens Added!

We again have our preschool, elementary and Youth of Unity (YOU) group.  Our Youth Ministry this year has added a new group, Uniteens!  Youth ministry welcomes families to our Youth Education program. We honor your child’s journey in growing by providing a safe and loving, learning environment.  We introduce children to Unity principles, instilling a desire to explore our spiritual development, developing a community of families within Unity of Medina, and promoting key values such as compassion, love, service and diversity.  We offer an opportunity to unify all young people who are seeking to express the indwelling Christ in accordance with the principles of practical Christianity as taught and interpreted by Unity School and the Association of Unity Churches.

U’-ni-teen: n., an adolescent (teen or preteen) Truth student seeking to develop self identity amidst rapid physical and emotional changes.

Uniteens are teens in grades 6, 7, 8 or equivalent who come together to learn Unity Principles and how to apply them, share fellowship in a safe, spiritually based environment, and to be supported in their spiritual growth and development.

When Do Uniteens Meet? Uniteen groups meet on Sunday mornings at church for a weekly spiritual experience. In addition, there are planned social activities, fun outings, service projects & regional retreats. The events & activities outside of regular Sunday meetings help bond the group & provide opportunities to practice & apply spiritual principles to daily life.

What Activities Are Offered? Spiritual — On Sundays, our Uniteens meet to explore Truth and its application in their lives through a meaningful Sunday lesson. This includes prayer, meditation, Scripture and activities related to the Sunday lesson. Social and Service gatherings are planned for friendship, group building, and to raise the consciousness of selfless giving.

Uniteens will be invited and encouraged to participate actively in the Y.O.U. fundraisers....Pay it forward...they will soon be Y.O.U.er's before you know it!

Youth Love Offering

We are excited to include in our youth’s Sunday service experience the Tithing Process of Life.  In order to allow our young ones to practice demonstrating the tithing model a love offering is will be received during Sunday School, Uniteen and Y.O.U. service time.  The amount given by the youth will not be our focus. We will be directing the learning on the importance of giving as a way of life.  As you know, giving to where we receive our good is an important lesson and a blessing within our lives.

We, at Unity, want our children to understand this lesson and begin receiving life’s blessings, even at their young ages.  The concept of prosperity is far more easily learned when young and will serve them for a lifetime as they apply the spiritual practice of tithing.  Tithing is the act of putting God first in our lives, whether it be a tithe of thought (prayer), prosperity (financial), and/or works (acts of kindness).  The children have been experiencing how to put God first through thought and works and those within the Sunday School Ministry feel it is time to bring prosperity into their consciousness.

We encourage and invite parents to join with us and really share what it has meant within your individual families as you put God first in all things.  Allowing your children to “earn” a financial blessing by performing works throughout the week and then encouraging them to pray before deciding the amount they will bring to their church family will support the Tithing Process of Life that the Sunday School Ministry is teaching.  Another possibility of teaching the process would be tithing on financial gifts received, whether they are gifts received from someone else or money you give to them for giving on Sunday morning.   First and foremost, we want them to learn that when we give back to where we are spiritually fed, we open ourselves up to receiving back from God, our good.  When a financial gift is unavailable the children will be encouraged to offer a word of intention for prosperity as the basket comes to them, thus reinforcing the tithing concept of prayer and thanksgiving.

Talk with your children about the ideas behind giving and tithing.

Thank you for helping your children understand at an early age the value of giving where good is received.
